Overview
Pikey Peak Trek is a newly discovered trekking route to the Everest region. This trek takes you to beautiful areas in Everest inhabited by Sherpa settlements. This trek is also known as the Dal Bhat Trek and is one of the best hilltop destinations that give you panoramic views of the Mount Everest and other neighboring peaks of the region.

The trek route to Pikey Peak is less travelled than the other areas in the Everest region. But, in recent years, Pikey Peak trek has gained a lot of popularity. The trek is suitable for everyone who wants to explore the highest peak in the world, Mount Everest and the rugged landscapes of the Everest region. Along with this, the trek offers you with some of the magnificent views of the Himalayan range such as Mount Dhaulagiri, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu and many more.

Schedule Details

DAY 01: ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU 1300M
  • Flying to Kathmandu is in itself an exciting and memorable experience. On a clear day, you will get a panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains. After completing the visa formalities, collect your luggage downstairs. As you exit the terminal, you will be welcomed by our representatives. From the airport, you will be transferred to your booked hotel in Kathmandu. On reaching, you can either relax in your room or go for a walk exploring the streets.
  • In the evening, we host a welcome dinner with cultural entertainments.

DAY 02: PREPARATION DAY IN KATHMANDU
  • The managing Director of our company will meet you at the hotel and provide more information about the adventure. Your dues must be cleared before commencing the trip. Later in the afternoon, you are free to roam around the city. We will finalize all the paperwork and make a final check of the equipment. In case you have missed any, you can buy them in the market.
  • While we take care of your paperwork, you will have time to explore the city at your own pace.
  • In case you are interested in guided sightseeing in heritage sites, we are pleased to offer the service.

DAY 03: DRIDAY 03: DRIVE TO DHAP, TREK TO JAPRE 2920MVE TO SYABRUBESI (2380M)
  • You'll start the day with a 6-7 hour drive from Kathmandu to Dhap. From Dhap, you'll start the first day of the trek.
  • The trek takes around 3 hours to reach Japre. On approaching, the close view of mountains- Numbur range can be clearly spotted. The trail passes through Sigane followed by a road. The first village you reach is called Japre (2920 m/9580 ft.), perched above a deep valley with spectacular Everest and Numbur Himal range. There’s a pretty little gompa and stupa too, and this is your stop for the night.

DAY 04: TREK FROM JAPRE TO PIKEY BASE CAMP 3640M

After Japre, the trail climbs up to a grassy ridge at Bhulbhule. There’s a single lodge with no name and nice views of the Everest range can be seen from here. Soon after Bhulbhule, the trail splits and you'll turn right to Pikey Peak. You’ll pass some old yak houses and a long Mani stone wall. The trail then contours the hillside below Taklung Danda and goes through a beautiful forest.
There are many rhododendron forests along the trail. As you come out from the forest, it’s around a 2 hours walk to Pikey Base camp. It takes around 5 hours to reach Pikey base camp from Japre.

DAY 05: SUNRISE AT PIKEY PEAK (4065M) AND TREK TO LODING (2515M)
  • Starting early in the morning, you'll follow a gradual trail to the summit, covered with prayer flags. The views are breathtaking! Enjoy sunrise from the summit and descend back to the base camp. If the weather is clear, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views from Annapurna to Kanchenjunga.
  • From the Pikey Base Camp, you'll follow a ridgeline which starts flat and then steepens as you enter the forest to Jase Bhanjyang, where you will have your breakfast. After breakfast, you'll continue your walk down to Loding, which passes through some steep sections in the forest. At Loding, you'll have a couple choices for accommodation.

DAY 06: LODING TO JUNBESI 2675M
  • You'll start the day by heading down the ridgeline for breakfast at Jase Bhanjyang. Leaving there, there are a few options for the descent to Junbesi. The most likely is a shortcut trail that leaves the ridge shortly after Jase Bhanjyang and descends steeply through dense forest to Taktor. This path intersects the Everest Base Camp trail coming from Jiri. The tea houses from here are a little more developed, and you're likely to meet a few other tourists for the first time.
  • From Taktor, it is a couple of hours on a beautiful trail to Junbesi. Junbesi is a traditional Sherpa village sitting at an altitude of 2675 m/ 8776 ft., and is the cradle of Sherpa culture and architecture. The Sherpas consider the Solukhumbu a sacred valley. Buddhism is well flourished in the region and you can see so many monasteries in the trail.
  • Visit the Thubtenchoeling monastery on the way to Junbesi. The trekking time for this day is around 6 to 7 hours.

DAY 07: JUNBESI TO TAKSINDU, 2960M
  • This morning we will head for Taksindu. You cross the river at the bottom of the village and ascend up to Salung through the forest. From Salung we can have the view of Mount Everest (8848 m/ 29,028 ft), Chamlang (7319 m/ 2, 4012 ft) and Makalu (8481 m/ 27,824 ft). Also the scenery is beautiful in either direction.
  • We again pass through the stream which leads the way to Ringmo. Ringmo is famous for apple orchards and apple wine. Once again the trail follows a climb to Taksindu La and descends to Taksindu monastery where you will find your lodge overnight. The Taksindu Monastery was built in 1946 AD and is usually open either in early morning or late afternoon.

DAY 08: TAKSINDU TO PHAPLU, CHIWONG MONASTERY, 2459M
  • The trek today leads to Phaplu from Taksindu through the shady forest. There's also the option of hiking up to Chiwong Gompa, situated high on a cliff overlooking the valley. This monastery was founded in 1923 and has magnificent celebrations for the Mani Rimdu festival in autumn. Continue the trek down into Phaplu and celebrate the completion of a trek at your cozy tea house.

DAY 09: FLIGHT TO KATHMANDU
  • We will return on the regular flight Phaplu-Kathmandu to the busy capital of Nepal, where an agent will wait for us to transfer to our hotel. The flight is the best option to catch the magnificent view of the entire Himalayas.
  • You will have the rest of the day free to explore the streets of Kathmandu, enjoy Thamel's leisure or rest at your hotel
